On Thursday, March 10, 2022, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, FAS, handed over the site for the construction of the Faculty of Science Laboratory to contractors, Planet Projects limited.
The Dean of the Faculty of Science, Prof. Elijah Oyeyemi, in his brief address, disclosed that the dream of constructing a Faculty of Science Laboratory started with former Dean of the Faculty and current Director, Institute of Maritime Studies, Prof. Matthew Ilori. He hoped that the project would be commissioned before the end of the Vice-Chancellor鈥檚 tenure.
The Vice-Chancellor, while addressing members of the Faculty present, mentioned that in times past, the Faculty of Science was denied accreditation due to the lack of laboratories, hence the birth of this dream and the allocation of some spaces to some departments at the D. K. Olukoya Central Research Laboratories. He noted the challenges that might be faced during the construction of the buidling due to the terrain of the site area. He also expressed hope that the laboratory would be commissioned before the end of his tenure as the Vice-Chancellor of this great institution on November 11, 2022.
Afterwards, Management was taken on a tour of the site, during which Professor of Architecture, Michael Adebamowo revealed that the edifice will comprise about 7 laboratories including basements.
