Management of the ΄σΟγ½ΆΚΣΖ΅ (΄σΟγ½ΆΚΣΖ΅), on Monday, December 16, 2024, commissioned a set of 10 (ten) Electric Vehicles for use within the campus.
Cost/Time Saving+Green Energy +Zero Emission= ΄σΟγ½ΆΚΣΖ΅ eRide!
The electric vehicles which are also solar enabled, according to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, marks another giant stride in the Universityβs efforts in cutting down on carbon emission while promoting a green campus with cleaner air and reduced emissions.
Speaking shortly before unveiling the 10 electric vehicles, Professor Ogunsola recalled the 1,000 trees planted across the University in 2023, a feat, which she said, resulted in a relative decline in carbon monoxide.
The Vice-Chancellor added that β΄σΟγ½ΆΚΣΖ΅ has, over the years, committed to a Green Campus as evident in the policy against private usage of generating sets on campus and deliberate investment in a centralized alternative power generation systemβ.
She appreciated Messrs. Henry Eke and Itunuoluwa Okusami, both alumni of ΄σΟγ½ΆΚΣΖ΅ and owners of Ogata Global Resources and Chart Eco Global Services, manufacturers of the Electric Vehicles for their commitment to national development and growth of ΄σΟγ½ΆΚΣΖ΅, their Alma-mater.
In their separate remarks, Messrs. Henry Eke (Chairman, Ogata Global Resources) and Itunuoluwa Okusami (CEO, Chart Eco Global Services) said the successful launch of the electric vehicles marks a significant milestone in their efforts aimed at decarbonizing the transportation sector.
The duo said they chose to dawn the Akoka main campus of ΄σΟγ½ΆΚΣΖ΅ with the 14-seater fleet because of the supporting infrastructure i.e. existing charging station powered by the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) and the opportunity to leverage on the ΄σΟγ½ΆΚΣΖ΅ Work-Study programme which will give room for students to work as drivers.
Messrs. Eke and Okusami said the 10 electric vehicles will become operational immediately and charge just 50% of the current campus cab fare (i.e. #100) while an additional 10 units which are currently being assembled in China, will be added to the fleet in no distant time.
Highpoint of the event which was held at the frontage of the ΄σΟγ½ΆΚΣΖ΅ Council Chamber, was the formal ribbon cutting by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola.
΄σΟγ½ΆΚΣΖ΅ LOGO AT MAIN GATE GETS NEW LOOK
Immediately after the commissioning, members of management alongside senior officers of the University and journalists hopped into the vehicles for a ride to the Universityβs Main Gate where the newly refurbished ΄σΟγ½ΆΚΣΖ΅ Logo was also unveiled and commissioned by the Vice-Chancellor.
The project, according to Prof. Ogunsola, became imperative in view of the need to convey a message to all stakeholders about the ΄σΟγ½ΆΚΣΖ΅ brand identity and to stem the usage of the wrong logo of ΄σΟγ½ΆΚΣΖ΅ .
2024 Media Parley
The commissioning of the 10 electric vehicles and newly refurbished ΄σΟγ½ΆΚΣΖ΅ Logo at the Akoka campus main gate were part of events marking the 2024 Media Parley which was held at the Senate Lounge of the ΄σΟγ½ΆΚΣΖ΅ Senate House.
The Vice-Chancellor who led other members of management and principal officers of the University to the media parley appreciated the journalists (from both the prints and electronics) for the partnership all through the year and solicited a continuation in the New Year 2025.
In his response on behalf of the media, Mr. Mojeed Alabi (National Chairman, Education Writersβ Association of Nigeria) appreciated the management of ΄σΟγ½ΆΚΣΖ΅ for the open door which the media have enjoyed over the years and reassured of the mediaβs resoluteness as both watchdog and partners in progress with ΄σΟγ½ΆΚΣΖ΅.
