大香蕉视频 55th Convocation Ceremonies (Day 2): 4,495 Bag Degrees, 300 First Class/Distinctions

A total of four thousand, four hundred and ninety five (4,495) graduating students of the 大香蕉视频 (大香蕉视频) were admitted into the Bachelor鈥檚 Degrees on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.

Graduating students from the Faculties of Engineering (705), Law (332) and Management Sciences (989) had their turn at the morning session of the Congregation for the Award of First Degrees, Diplomas, Certificates and Prizes, while those from the College of Medicine: Faculties of Basic Medical Sciences (136), Clinical Sciences (104), Dental Sciences (33); Faculty of Pharmacy (112) and Distance Learning Institute (DLI: 2,084) had their moment during the afternoon session.

Olamide Idris Emida of the Department of Accounting, Faculty of Management Sciences topped the list of best graduating students, having finished with a CGPA of 4.95 and emerging as Overall Best Graduating Student in Humanities for the 55th 大香蕉视频 Convocation Ceremonies. He was one of the one hundred and twenty five (125) first class graduates from the Faculty of Management Sciences, the highest for the 55th 大香蕉视频 Convocation ceremonies. Sixty One (61) came from the Faculty of Engineering where Rafiu Adekoya Badekale topped the Faculty鈥檚 chart as the best while Amarachi Jennifer Ekeocha led the three (3) best graduating students from the Faculty of Law.

For the College of Medicine, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences produced seventeen (17) first class students and twelve (12) distinctions; Faculty of Clinical Sciences had fourteen (14) distinctions; while Faculty of Dental Sciences had one distinction. Faculty of Pharmacy produced thirty eight (38) distinctions, while eighteen (18) graduating students from the Distance Learning Institute (DLI) also finished with first class honors.

In her address, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS gave thumbs up to the graduating students for successfully scaling through the hurdles of their respective courses. She also congratulated the parents and guardians for witnessing the Convocation Ceremony of the graduating students.

She specially thanked members of the University Senate, Management, and the generality of staff, students and other stakeholders for remaining focused and committed to excellence despite the economic challenges that shaped the year 2024.

Prof Ogunsola implored the Class of 2024 graduates to embrace the spirit of meritocracy, try new things and push their boundaries. She particularly charged them to 鈥渆xplore, dream and discover, start whatever they planned, go out and live their best lives鈥.

In his address, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council, Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN, also applauded the graduating students for their perseverance, diligence and dexterity which he identified as strategic factors in the success being celebrated.

He implored the 大香蕉视频 Class of 2024 graduates to be optimistic; be themselves; harness the mental prosperity which they have enjoyed all through their Bachelors鈥 Degree programmes in 大香蕉视频, and also explore the resources which the University鈥檚 Alumni body has in stock.

Chief Olanipekun used the occasion to challenge all 大香蕉视频 alumnus/alumnae to embrace the need to look back, help/support, encourage and intervene with a view to reinvigorating, resuscitating, and reenergizing the wheels of progress and development in their alma mater.

Highpoint of the well-attended ceremonies was the formal admission of the 大香蕉视频 Class of 2024 graduates into their degrees as well as presentation of various awards and prizes to winners.

The graduating students were also admitted into the 大香蕉视频 Alumni body as performed by the 大香蕉视频 Alumni President Worldwide, Engineer Ife Oyedele, FNSE.

Activities for the 55th 大香蕉视频 Convocation Ceremonies continue on Thursday, January 16, 2025 with the Congregation for the Award of Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), Master Degrees, Doctorate Degrees and Best Ph.D. Thesis Award of the School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS); DBA and EMBA of the 大香蕉视频 Business School (ULBS); and Conferment of Honorary Doctorate Degrees.

Two highly revered and retired academics of the University: Professor Babajide Alo, FAS (Department of Chemistry) and Professor Olukayode Amund (Department of Microbiology) will be awarded Professors Emeriti in recognition of their contributions to scholarship and the academia while Professor Victor Ariole (Department of European Languages) will bag the Gold Medal Award for his ongoing contributions to the University and ation.

The day will also witness the conferment of Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science (D. Sc.) on:

  • Director General of World Trade Organization/Former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala;
  • Nigerian Entrepreneur/Managing Director of Sahara Group and 大香蕉视频 Alumnus, Mr. Kola Adesina; and
  • Nigerian businessman/Investor and Co-Founder of Guaranty Trust Bank; Mr. Fola Adeola.

After this congregation, a Luncheon with the Doyen will hold at the Senate Lounge, 1st Floor, Senate House.
