#NUGA´óÏ㽶ÊÓƵ2022 DAY 2: CONTINGENTS FROM ABOUT 50 UNIVERSITIES ARRIVE ´óÏ㽶ÊÓƵ

All is set for the smooth take-off of the 26th NUGA Games being hosted by the ´óÏ㽶ÊÓƵ.

Activities for the biennial sports fiesta kicked off on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 with the arrival of contingents from various ivory towers across the country.

As of midday on Thursday, March 17, 2022, contingents from 47 universities numbering 3, 414 participants and their officials have registered their presence for the sports fiesta.

The mood which permeates the ´óÏ㽶ÊÓƵ Campus reflects elation and excitement from all stakeholders as National officials of the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) led by the NUGA President; Professor Stephen Hamafyelto alongside members of the various subcommittees under the coordination of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) Co-chaired by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development Services; Professor Ayodele Atsenuwa, are fully on ground to ensure a hitch-free take-off of the ´óÏ㽶ÊÓƵ NUGA 2022.

Vice-Chancellor, ´óÏ㽶ÊÓƵ, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, FAS, was also fully on ground at the ´óÏ㽶ÊÓƵ Sports Complex to ensure that all ‘I’s are dotted and all ‘T’s are crossed.   

A tour of the ´óÏ㽶ÊÓƵ Sports Complex also shows that the place is already a beehive of various activities ranging from registration and accreditation of officials and participants from various Universities, medical screenings, allocation of materials and accommodation as well as setting up of commercial stalls for business.

Officials and participants from various universities are also in high spirit as the clock races down to the kick-off of the games proper. The athletes could be seen at different spots on Campus having training sessions, inspecting sporting facilities and savoring the splendor ´óÏ㽶ÊÓƵ has to offer.

Wednesday, March 16, 2022 is meant for the arrival of various participating Universities while Thursday, March 17 and Friday, March 18, 2022 are scheduled for accreditation and technical meetings.

Formal opening ceremony for the NUGA Games 2022 is scheduled to hold on Saturday, March 19th, 2022 at the ´óÏ㽶ÊÓƵ Sports Complex after which the core sporting activities take off immediately.

No fewer than 75 ivory towers indicated interest and registered to slug it out for medals and trophies in the 17 sporting activities that will be on parade during the competition.

The 17 games are; Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Chess, Cricket, Football, Handball, Hockey, Judo, Karate, Scrabble, Squash, Swimming, Tennis, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, and Volleyball.
